Quick Notes
It's been one of those weeks where every major AI company decided to ship at the same time:

ByteDance quietly rolled out Seedance 2.0 into CapCut across multiple markets.
And Anthropic made a controversial call that has the developer community fired up.
Here's everything you need to know — and what it actually means for creators.

Google Veo 3.1 Lite — AI Video Just Got Cheap
Google launched Veo 3.1 Lite on March 31, and this one matters for anyone making video content with AI.
The numbers tell the story: $0.05 per second at 720p, $0.08 per second at 1080p.
That's half the cost of Veo 3.1 Fast. And at the same generation speed.
An 8-second clip costs you roughly 40 cents.
For context, that's less than a dollar for a TikTok-ready video clip.
What you get: text-to-video, image-to-video, synchronised audio generation, and both landscape (16:9) and portrait (9:16) aspect ratio
Gemma 4 — The LLM For Everyone
On April 2, Google DeepMind released Gemma 4, a family of four open-weight models built for everyday devices.
This matters a lot as it means a fantastic new model, that is fast and is multi-modal (it can read text, PDFs, documents, images etc), can be used offline on your phone.
To get access to it, download the Google AI Edge Gallery app on your phone. This lets you download many different Gemma models, including the latest Gemma 4.
You can chat to the LLM even when you are not connected to the internet.
Anthropic Bans OpenClaw from Claude Subscriptions
This one sparked a firestorm.
On April 4, Anthropic blocked Claude Pro and Max subscribers from using their flat-rate subscriptions with OpenClaw.
You now have to pay extra to use Openclaw and third party tools.
Users who want to keep using OpenClaw with Claude now have to switch to pay-as-you-go billing, which for heavy users means cost increases of up to 50x their previous monthly spend.
The era of "unlimited AI agents on a flat subscription" was always going to end.
If you're building agentic workflows, budget for usage-based costs. This won't be the last pricing shake-up, and maybe the long-term solution is for us to all start using local LLM models that will be free, but need a strong device to run on.
Seedance 2.0 is appearing everywhere.
The rollout of Seedance 2.0 is here, and this is very very exciting.
ByteDance launched Dreamina Seedance 2.0 on March 26, and it's now rolling into CapCut across Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
US launch remains delayed.
What's genuinely impressive: targeted editing. You can modify specific elements in a scene without regenerating the entire sequence.
The safety guardrails are strict: it won't generate video from images containing real faces, and all output carries an invisible watermark. That limits some use cases, but it's a responsible approach.
THANK YOU FOR 100 SUBSCRIBERS
We have smashed 100 subscribers on Beehiiv, and I could not be more thankful for everyone who has supported the journey so far.
Thank you, so so much.
