The Story

…is a partnership. Freepik and Magnific are friends that became partners.
Magnific AI was a two-person operation out of Murcia, Spain, built by Javi López and Emilio Nicolás in 2023.
It was an AI image upscaler that did something no one had done before: it didn't just make images bigger — it reimagined them. Add detail that wasn't there. Enhance texture. Take a blurry 512px image and return something that looks like it was shot in studio.
When Freepik acquired Magnific in 2024, it was a huge step forward in ensuring creators could use the best upscaler and tools within a single platform.
A Continued Partnership
I’ve been working with Freepik since 2024, and that continues into the rebrand into Magnific!
Some of us were lucky to be part of the launch call before the rebranding, and it was another example of the company putting their creators first.
What strikes me most is the courage of it. Freepik had 15 years of brand equity, 80 million monthly users who knew the name. Ditching that is not a small decision. It means betting that where you're going matters more than where you've been.
